Belgacom creates the Belgacom Foundation and launches a call for projects

The Belgacom Group has decided to group its different existing social patronage initiatives (the Proximus Foundation and The Helping Hand) and its partnerships into a single entity, namely the Belgacom Foundation.

Today, the Belgacom Foundation is launching a call for projects for an amount of EUR 450,000 targeted at non-profit organizations and student associations, with the aim of stimulating intergenerational dialogue.

The Belgacom Group has been involved in social patronage initiatives since 2003. Through the Proximus Foundation and The Helping Hand it has in this way supported more than 800 projects of non-profit organizations for a total amount of more than EUR 5 million. Also, several thousands of computers have been distributed to schools and non-profit organizations in order to close the digital gap.

Drawing from this experience, Belgacom wants to further increase its social patronage involvement and has to that end set up the Belgacom Foundation. Its mission is to support sustainable, innovative initiatives that aim to create, restore or improve social bonds between communities and people.

The Belgacom Foundation has opted for an independent management, relying on a Board of Directors made up of external experts and Belgacom directors, supported by a specialized jury.

Concretely, there are four fields of activity for the Belgacom Foundation. One of those activities is the donation of computers to non-profit organizations and special schools. This is an initiative which the Belgacom Foundation will organize every year through a call for projects running from the beginning of April to the end of May. This year more than 400 computers will be distributed to non profits associations and special needs schools at the end of the project call.
